May 2011

Are you ready for the 2011 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, 24 – 28 May?

This year’s show is shaping up to be the most avant-garde yet featuring show gardens from renowned designers James Wong, Bunny Guinness, Cleve West and more, while this year also sees the launch of the Artisan Gardens. Crowd favourites including Urban Gardens and the Great Pavilion complete a sumptuous line-up.

Follow the build-up on Twitter, take part in our weekly Facebook chats at 11am on Friday 6, 13 and 20 May, or download the official IPhone app.

Tickets are now sold out but you can buy tickets to other RHS shows.

Jobs to do in May

Advice With the bulbs fading and the herbaceous border growing in leaps and bounds, it is now clear that summer is approaching and so more attention to the garden and lawn will need to begin.

  1. Earth up potatoes, and promptly plant any still remaining
  2. Collect rainwater and recycle
  3. Watch out for late frosts. Protect tender plants
  4. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of daffodils
  5. Watch out for viburnum beetle and lily beetle grubs
