Penstemon may be deciduous or evergreen perennials or subshrubs, with simple, narrow leaves and racemes or panicles of bell-shaped or funnel-shaped flowers in summer and early autumn
'Alice Hindley' is a semi-evergreen perennial to 1m in height, with rather large ovate leaves and erect racemes of narrowly bell-shaped pale mauve flowers, white within, 4cm across the spreading lobes
