Comment

This well maintained plantsman's garden was begun in 1940 with advice on plants and planting from Frank Knight, then director of Wisley. The layout is informal, yet full of incidents, each with a distinct character. They include a superb woodland garden, an alpine scree, a gravel garden, a fine collection of trees and spectacular flower borders. The Dorothy Clive Garden first reaches a peak in May, when the woodland quarry is brilliant with rhododendrons, but new mixed borders ensure that midsummer and August are also high points. The great range and variety of plants - including about 40 cultivars of Deutzia - mean that there is always much to see whatever the season.
