Comment |
The Lutyens-style house at Coleton Fishacre was built by Oswald Milne for Sir Rupert and Lady Dorothy D'Oyly Carte in 1925. Rare bulbs flourish in the warm terraces which surround it. The woodland garden, thickly planted with rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias, spills down a secret valley to the sea. A stream runs down the valley, dammed to make small pools along the way, where damp-loving perennials luxuriate. Almost frost-free, the range and size of southern hemisphere trees and shrubs is astounding. |
