<p>Dyffryn's sumptuous gardens were designed by Thomas Mawson for Reginald Cory around an Edwardian prodigy house. They are now being restored with a chunky £3.23m millennium grant. Originally intended partly for display - there is even a Roman garden with a temple and fountain - and partly for the Corys' own pleasure, Dyffryn has a huge collection of good plants built up in the early years of the 20th century. Watch it revive over the next year or so: the garden as a status symbol. Agreement has been reached with the Vale of Glamorgan Council for the National Trust to take over the management of Dyffryn Gardens, on a 50-year lease from January 2013. |
