Scone is best known for its large pinetum and for the Douglas firs (Pseudotsuga menziesii) grown from original seed sent back by their discoverer David Douglas, who was born on the estate. Other attractions include a large beech maze and woodland plantings of rhododendrons and azaleas. Lord Mansfield has the largest private collection of orchids in the country. A selection is always on view in the state rooms and there is an annual orchid festival. |
