St. Andrew’s pupil harvesting lettuce

St Andrew’s gardening club have a varied mix of elements in their garden including ornamental plant troughs, hanging baskets and window boxes, a vegetable garden of raised beds and large pots, and a school pond.

Future plans include expanding the number of flower beds so that each year group has an allocated space to work with, and developing a wildlife area.

Good ideas from St Andrew’s
 Include home-grown salad leaves in the school salad bar and introduce children to some new flavours.

 Ask if any parents work in garden centres, diy stores, supermarkets or builder’s merchants - they may be able to get discounts for the school.
 Large plastic trugs make colourful containers that are easy to move.
