What is Flickr?
Flickr is an online photo sharing and community website. Photographs of many different subjects and styles are posted on Flickr by users worldwide. These photos can be shared with friends, family or everyone using Flickr.
The RHS is encouraging people to upload their photographs of their school gardens so we can see your favourite photos and see how your school gardens are coming along. You can also see photos that other schools upload so you can get inspiration from them.
Anyone can view the photographs on Flickr, however, to upload any of your own photos you must create an account. Basic accounts are free of charge.

If you want to join us on Flickr you need a Yahoo! ID (because Yahoo! owns Flickr) so start by creating a Yahoo! ID here and that will let you create a Flickr account.
If you already have an account with Flickr, or you created one by following the link above, you can add your photographs of your school garden to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Flickr group. You need to upload the photos to your account before you can share them in our group.
How to find the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Group:
There is only one official RHS group on Flickr. If you want to find our group you can type in the following web address - http://www.flickr.com/photos/schoolgardening/ or click here to go there now.
Alternatively go to any page in Flickr which has the search box at the top and in that search box type "RHS Campaign for School Gardening" including the double quotes (this makes Flickr look for the whole phrase). When the search results appear there will be three new tabs showing on the page: Photos, Groups and People. Click on the tab for 'Groups' and the search results will be filtered to list only groups. Our group should be on the list, maybe at the top. Remember you are looking for the group using the full name RHS Campaign for School Gardening.
How to join the group:
You can join the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Group in three easy steps:
* Click on the 'Join this Group?' link on the group's page
* Read the posting rules
* Confirm that you want to join
Once you are a member, you can share your photos by submitting them to our group
How to add your photos to the group
Once you have a Flickr account and have uploaded your photos to it, there are two ways you can add your photos to our group:
Find the first photo that you want to add, on the main page for that photo click the 'Send to Group' icon immediately above the photo and then select " RHS Campaign for School Gardening" from the drop-down list that appears.
If you want to add a lot of your photos to our group at once, select 'Organize' from the top of the Flickr page, go to the 'Groups' tab, select all of your photos from the filmstrip at the bottom and drag them into the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Group box.
A note about tags
Flickr recommends that you add tags to your photos.
Tags are single words or short phrases which describe the content of a photo. They can also be used to include information about where or when a photo was taken.
If you want to join two words together in one tag, use double quotes: "school garden" or "outdoor learning activity"
