RHS Budding Gardeners Competition
2 June – 10 June 2012
The Campaign for School Gardening is once again seeking mini garden designers of the future. Whilst show gardens of all sizes and budgets are being prepared for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, RHS Gardens are inviting pupils aged 4 – 16 to create their own school show garden, albeit on a much smaller scale.
‘Pallet gardens’ measuring only 1m x 1m need to be filled with decorative ideas and practical planting schemes to inspire visitors to get growing in their own small spaces at home. The mini gardens will go on show from 2 – 10 June, with set-up taking place on Friday 1 June 2012*.
Pallet garden plots are available at RHS Gardens Wisley in Surrey, Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire, Rosemoor in North Devon and Hyde Hall in Essex.
Please note, all schools can take part but they must be willing to travel to the above four locations to collect and set up their pallet gardens.
Each garden will then be judged by RHS Curators and special VIP guests. Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite at each Garden during May Half Term.
Every school who takes part will be in with the chance of winning ‘Best in Show’ or a commendation, and receive free entry for their pupils** to RHS Gardens during May half term.
Teachers just need to download, complete and return the application form to their local RHS Garden by 16 March 2012. This should detail provisional ideas and designs. For more information, please download the FAQ document or contact info@rhs.org.uk with the title (Budding Gardeners) and your local RHS Garden clearly named.
*Please note that at RHS Garden Wisley schools can plant their garden on Thursday 31 May or Fri 1 June
** With an accompanying paying adult from 1 – 10 June 2012
