Garden Makeover for College Nursery
Students at Derby College have completed an eco-friendly garden makeover at Little Learners, the pre-school day nursery and holiday club based at Derby College in Mackworth.
Horticultural students from the College’s Broomfield Hall land-based campus and learners on a Prince’s Trust programme have transformed the children’s garden which now includes a vegetable plot, a sensory area planted with scented flowers, bird boxes a mini beast and insect area.
Elizabeth Taylor, Manager of Little Learners which cares for children pre-school children and babies whose parents are College, staff, students or who work in the local area, explained: “The children are delighted with the garden which gives them the opportunity to grow their own flowers and vegetables and also to enjoy the wildlife that will be encouraged into the garden.
“The students at the College have done a fantastic job and I am confident that this will help us achieve Eco Schools bronze award and Organic Garden status.”
