A dream school garden has been created at National Church of England Junior School in Lincolnshire by Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins after the school won the RHS and Puffin Book Club Growing Gardens competition.

Pupils at the school in Grantham were tasked with designing their dream school garden in the ‘Growing Gardens’ competition.

The winning drawing plus short explanation – was won by Maria Garforth who beat off scores of other entries from across the UK.

Maia’s winning entry which has been recreated by Blue Peter’s Chris Collins features four sections - a vegetable patch, a flower area, a wildlife area and an area to relax.

Maia said, ‘An important reason behind my design is the environment and the importance of looking after our wildlife. By encouraging them into our garden we can learn more about them and appreciate that just because they look scary, it doesn’t mean they are!”.

Pupils also made a scarecrow based on their headteacher Mr Gibbs to scare off any garden pests and birds!
