Children from North Queensferry Primary School are collecting plastic bottles to build a greenhouse. The children have been collecting large plastic bottles since last year – we estimate we will need 3,000 to 4,000 bottles. The final count for the Christmas Fayre has yet to be done, but the Head Teacher has been keeping count along with the Eco-group.
The school have already planted about 30 fruit tree cordons (apple, pear, cherry, plum, crab apple) plus blackberry, raspberry, black and red currants and gooseberry shrubs). There are 6 fruit trees to be planted. With numerous raised beds for a range of vegetables that can be used in the school kitchen. A herb garden and a wildlife section. Also plans for a live willow wall around the garden to act as a windbreak. Not forgetting a water butt and setting up a compost heap area.
The school also has for some time been developing a secret garden for wildlife which has a pond and some mature trees and shrubs which has resident frogs and toads.
