Sarah Chesters, Principal Education Officer, said “Thousands of schoolchildren visit Rosemoor every year and thoroughly enjoy learning about nature. The Campaign focuses attention on school gardens and teaching outside, providing valuable advice and incentives and the children find this so stimulating. Teachers gain a great deal of inspiration from their Rosemoor visits and are encouraged to work with the children and parents to improve their school grounds and set up gardening clubs. As a result the children are healthier, happier and a great deal wiser.”
The Campaign has been an enormous success, with more than 5,500 schools registering since its launch this time last year. All the schools (the equivalent of over a million children) have received a free starter kit, lesson plans and gardening advice. The Campaign teaches pupils about plants and gardening, while providing resources to help teachers make the most of their school garden, teach the National Curriculum outdoors and inspire their pupils to live greener lifestyles.
