There is lots of growing food going on in primary schools across Bristol thanks to GROFUN's Learning by Growing project. This offers schools wonderful & unique outdoor learning opportunities to both engage pupils in the growing & eating of healthy food, and in all aspects of the curriculum.
Learning by Growing takes children on the exciting journey from plant to plate through fun & practical workshops on school sites. By planting seeds, nurturing plants, harvesting & eating delicious produce children are reconnected to where food comes from & understand the process of getting food to their tables. Through growing food children learn the importance of healthy eating, working together & environmental stewardship.
GROFUN also works to engage the parents & the community local to each school through garden open days & harvest festivals, in order to get more people interested in growing food & to encourage community cohesion & celebration.
