Highfield Prep School News

In Celebration of their 10th anniversary they give something back to Harlow Carr

A local school to us, Highfield Prep school, are celebrating their 10th anniversary. They decided to give something back to Harlow Carr as they are regular visitors. In May a KS 1 class will help to sow the wild flower seed on our ‘Whale Border’. Their class topic is pirates.

The KS2 ‘charity’ group raised funds for a new colour nest camera for the education department. They did this through selling cakes and a guess the name of the squeaky bird competition. On Wednesday the group came to RHS Harlow Carr and built nest boxes with the help of our gardens supervisor Dean Peckett.

Our resident bird expert, Andrew Willocks, then helped the children site and number their boxes along the woodland path. This will allow the children to find out who nests in the boxes. The Harrogate Advertiser took a picture of the children handing over the cheque for our nest box can.
