Award details

The nominated young person needs to be associated with a RHS Campaign for School Gardening registered school or group. An adult (over 18) can nominate a young person by completing and returning an entry form. The RHS will choose the four best entrants from four age group categories and each school will receive a digital camera to demonstrate why their nominee is an exemplary young gardener. An overall winner and three finalists will be selected by a panel of celebrity gardening judges and judges from the RHS.

Prizes

Selected from the entry forms, 16 young people will be shortlisted (four in each age category) and each school will receive a digital camera to make a short film demonstrating why their nominated young person is an exemplary gardener. Engraved hand trowels will be presented to the shortlisted 16 young nominees.

Judged on these films, four winners (one from each age group) will receive gardening tools and £500 worth of National Garden Gift vouchers for their schools. The three finalists (excluding the overall winner) will also be offered the opportunity to have a personal tour by a member of the Gardens or Education team when they visit an RHS Garden with an accompanying adult.

The overall winner, crowned RHS Young School Gardener of the Year 2013 will also spend a day at their nearest RHS Garden, working alongside RHS gardeners during the week 9 – 13 September 2013 and receive family tickets to either RHS Tatton Park Flower Show or RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2014.
